Chris James & Curate.Social
By Christine Ray-Bratt
I’m a native Kingstonian but have traveled the world working in the fashion industry for over 30 years. In 2010 I opened Chris James as a Men’s and Women’s fashion and lifestyle boutique featuring both Canadian and International brands. My grandfather owned Steacy’s, and I have fond memories of the store, so you could say retailing runs in my blood. My husband and I decided to come home to Kingston to raise our family and continue our careers because we both love the connections and the sense of community that Kingston always held for us.
In 2022 we opened our second boutique in Kingston called curate.social. Also located in Downtown Kingston, it is a clothing boutique for Men and Women where fashions are a bit edgier and unique. This second location also houses a bar to elevate the shopping experience and is also a space to host events such as wine tastings, festival launches, and private parties as requested.
Retail can be challenging, but there is such a thrill in helping someone find the perfect piece or create the perfect wardrobe that makes what we do so rewarding. Ultimately, we aim to provide service and experiences that make each of our stores a space where customers can be inspired and delighted, while they shop and connect with the community around them. We can’t wait to help people find exactly what they are looking for.
